The Neighbourhood Health Programme is set to transform the way we deliver care across the UK, and the ELC team is thrilled to be part of the journey.

In response to the launch of the National Neighbourhood Health Implementation, last week, our small and mighty team announced a free 1-hour masterclass on Group Clinics and Neighbourhood Health – and the response was phenomenal!

Within days, nearly 300 healthcare professionals from across the country signed up to learn how Group Clinics (also known as group consultations) can empower patients and their families to keep well, and frontline Integrated Neighbourhood Teams to deliver joined-up personalised care at scale.

What Are Group Clinics and Why Do They Matter?

Group Clinics bring patients with similar conditions together in a supportive, collaborative group where they receive planned clinical care from healthcare professionals, learn from each other and gain peer support. This approach:

  • Increases productivity and reduces pressure on NHS services
  • Reducing waiting times and increases service responsiveness when patients need help
  • Can be used to deliver primary, community and intermediate care
  • Builds resilience by increasing trust in clinicians, enhancing experience of care, creating social capital and fostering community and peer connection
  • Supports the NHS 10-Year Plan goals of scaling personalised care prevention outside hospital.

By utilising Group Clinics as a vehicle to deliver integrated Neighbourhood Health, NHS services can work hand-in-hand with community and voluntary services to improve population health outcomes.

Spotlight on North Sedgemoor

During our masterclass, we were proud to showcase North Sedgemoor PCN as an exemplar site for neighbourhood health. Their work demonstrates how group clinics can:

  • Increase access for patients with long-term conditions
  • Strengthen community connections
  • Improve efficiency and reduce waiting times

Stories like this show how Neighbourhood Health isn’t just a policy concept, it’s already making a difference on the ground.

Free Resource for Healthcare Teams

After the masterclass, we shared a Neighbourhood Health Resource Sheet and the session recording with all registrants. These resources are designed to help primary care teams and Integrated Neighbourhood Teams explore how Group Clinics can:

  • Deliver the three shifts described in the NHS 10-Year Plan
  • Engage and empower patients to manage their health and keep well
  • Drive innovation in neighbourhood health models
